School of Architecture and Civil Engineering

Architectural History AG1 / AG2

The basics of architectural history are comprised of a 4 semester series of lectures (module AG1 + module AG2). In doing so we present the development of architecture and urban planning thematically in each semester, from different perspectives:

History of the Most Important Building Types
The Architectural Profession
History of the City
History of Construction and Architectural Organization

Each semester has a distinctive narrative, which is organized in chronological order (the basics of architectural history). We discuss spaces, buildings, cities and landscapes, utopias and realised buildings, from ancient to modern times. In the process we constantly investigate the context attained in the architecture, and therefore the social, political, theoretical architecture, formal examples and aspects of structional design of the individual examples.

The performance evaluation for the module AG 1 starts after the first semester on the basis of a presentation (AG 1a, portion of grade 30% ) and after the second semester based on a written examination (AG 2b portion of grade 70 %).

The performance evaluation for the module AG 2 begins after the first semester is completed on the basis of an individual presentation (AG 2a, portion of grade 30% ) and after the second semester on the basis of an individual dissertation ( AG 2b, portion of grade 70 %).
